Musique d' Ombre is a live musique concrete creation by composers Jonny Farrow and Edmund Mooney in which the principles of Pierre Schaeffer's concept of Acousmatics, or sounds removed from their source, is explored. Schaeffer was bolstered in his concept-making by the understanding that the great Greek mathematician and teacher Pythagoras taught his new pupils from behind a screen for the 1st year of their instruction, in hopes of aiding their obviously confused minds. In the performance at Judson Church in NYC we went behind a screen for the 1st time, and quite enjoyed it, as I imagine Pythagoras did. You can do whatever you want back there! In San Francisco for the SoundWave Festival we are exploring more subtle combinations of textures and sounds.
Below those is an artists' talk after our performance at the 3rd biennial Soundwave Festival produced by Me'd1ate Network in San Francisco.
